Slovenian Harmonica Festival – 2nd day
At the invitation of my friend Vladimir Hrovat, who I met at the National Harmonica League festival in Bristol in 2015, I flew out to Slovenia and enjoyed the Slovenian Harmonica festival.
Vlado did a workshop at the festival in Trebenje in the morning. While this was happening I was entrusted to his friend ‘Tony’ who had spent working time in Britain and whose English was consequentially good, and he drove me to some of the sights, including a visit to the Kartuzija Pleterje (Carthusian Monastery at Pleterje) where we enjoyed an audio-visual presentation about the monastery. Tony kindly bought me a bottle of red and white wine made by the monks at the Monastery.
The father of the festival, Stane (Stanley) Peček, is pictured, bottom right. The festival took place over the day of 29th February 2020. A workshop was given by Vladimir in the morning, competition performances in the afternoon and a brilliant concert in the evening. Vlado and I were asked to do an interview about the festival for local Slovenian radio. Afterwards all the festival attendees – it seemed to be them all – decamped to a local hotel for goulash and drinks – the perfect end to the day.
