Slovenia 1st day

On my first full day in Slovenia, Vlado took me to see the Ski slopes as Planica. We then went to see the Bled Castle, which overlooks Bled Lake.  We each had a helping of the lovely Bled Cream Cake in the castle café.  Vlado drove South to the spectacular Postojna caves from which I am pictured emerging.  It is a 2 mile electric train drive into the cave and a 1 mile walk around viewing the stalactites and stalagmites, some of which are longer than houses. The only living cave animals were found there – salamanders which are blind, can live to be a 100 and only eat every 10 years. They are kept in a kind of aquarium in the semi-dark and we were requested to be quiet. The ones we saw were 35 and 40 years old.  From there we went further south to Slovenia’s short coastline.  where we had a walk around Izola with Vlado’s cousin including in the lovely music college.

My now annual holiday to Nettwood Farm in East Harptree, Somerset was delayed because of a sad incident. When on my annual holiday in my home county of Somerset, I always enjoy my day in Wells. I usually meet my friend of 70 years, John, whom I met at infant school in Timsbury. We meet on Wednesday, which is Market Day in Wells and we enjoy the market and lunch. Another pleasure of…

On my first day I drove to Queen’s View, which I had seen in autumn before.  The weather was lovely as can be seen from the photo.  Loch Tummel and beyond Loch Rannoch can be seen in the view.  I drove along the northern shores of Loch Tummel and Loch Rannoch to Rannoch Station which…
